About Buying a Villa in Fueteventura
Fuerteventura is the closest Canary Island to the African coast and is the second largest of all the islands (after Tenerife).
Fuerteventura has over three thousand hours of sunshine per year and because the island is on the same latitude as Mexico, the weather conditions are very similar, making this an ideal holiday destination. The last volcanic eruption occurred around 7,000 years ago however, a ferry is just a hop to Lanzarote where you can view some volcanic activity on a minor scale. Although most of the land consists of stone and rock, due to its volcanic history, this island boasts impressive large sand dunes and some of the best beaches in the whole of Europe. There is such a vast expanse of sand, from the golden sand dunes of Corralejo in the north to the miles of flat beaches in Jandia in the South – what an ideal destination for the beach lover! Hundreds of surfers, wind surfers and divers visit the island every year, in fact, each July, the island hosts the P.W.A world windsurfing speed and slalom event at Sotavento in the South.
Don’t forget the golf lovers! Fuerteventura golf resort is set beside the coast and is the home of the Canaries Spanish Open in 2004. Needless to say, this is fantastic 18-hole golf course!
A world of its own, Fuerteventura offers everything from white sandy beaches for relaxing to newly developed commercial centres with restaurants, bars and shops.
Attractions
Fuerteventura offers an infinite amount of attractions, specifically for the nature lover inside all of us! A beautiful landscape, miles of white sandy beaches with crystal blue sea lapping onto them, miles of amazing white sand dunes, and tropical flora and fauna make for a relaxing holiday.
Visit Lajita, a small fishing village with black sandy beaches. Lajita has a zoo safari making a fantastic day out. The safari has over 200 species of birds, monkeys, lizards and crocodiles. In terms of theme/amusement parks, this Zoo Safari is the best man made park on the island of Fuerteventura.
Fuerteventura has the richest history of the islands. It is easy to view the windmills dotted around the island, which represent the islands farming tradition. These windmills are being restored as tourist centres with a vision to recreating the landscape of their working past.
Of the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura has the longest beaches of wonderful white sand and over three thousand hours of sunshine a year! Although not as well known as some of the other islands in the Canaries, Fuerteventura is a beautiful island with some of the best beaches in Europe with over 150 of them! Obviously these stunning beaches offer a vast array of water sport activities from surfing and windsurfing to whale watching!
It is easy to take a ferry from Fuerteventura to your choice of Canary Islands including Lanzarote, Tenerife or Gran Canaria. Lobos is located just 3km from Corralejo in the north of Fuerteventura, this tiny island takes it's name from the seals which once inhabited it. Be prepared to explore the island by foot, or laze in the unsheltered sunshine and catch some rays.
